Michael Grohotolsky

Born in Vienna, Michael Grohotolsky began his musical career as an alto soloist with the Vienna Boys’ Choir. He studied music education and vocal pedagogy and has been a lecturer in conducting, ensemble, and instrumental leadership at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 2006.


Since 2007, Michael Grohotolsky has served as the artistic director of the Vienna Chamber Choir. From 2000 to 2007, he was also the artistic director of Chorus Viennensis, the male choir of former Vienna Boys’ Choir members. Since November 2001, he has held the position of chorus director at Neue Oper Wien. In addition, he has been the artistic director of the Vienna State Youth Choir and the youth choir of the Vienna Choir School at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 2009.


Throughout his musical career, he has conducted choral-orchestral works with renowned ensembles such as the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Austrian-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic, and the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra.


In addition to his work as a conductor and choral director, he is also a sought-after guest lecturer, workshop leader, and jury member at various choral competitions both in Austria and internationally. He is the recipient of the Young Choral Conductor Award from the Erwin Ortner Fund.
